Love for the 17oz Trio

August 29th, 2024 | by Keaton Smith

I waffle back and forth on which Bivo model is my favorite. Right now, I am especially loving our smaller insulated bottle: the 17oz Trio. It's compact and easy to carry, and it's been key for keeping my water cold all summer. This bottle is a great one, and, today, I wanted to pay homage to the small but mighty seventeen ouncer.

When we launched our first insulated bottle (the OG 21oz Trio) a few years ago, we were shocked at how many customers were thirsty for cold water. We had a huge realization that cyclists hadn’t ever truly experienced cold water on the bike. While there are plastic insulated bottles out there, they don't compare to what a metal vacuum insulated bottle.

Not too long after the 21oz Trio came out, we launched a shorter version (the 17oz Trio) designed for smaller bike frames, bikes with aggressive bike geometry (hello MTB’ers!), or simply because you like the smaller size (we personally love the proportions and how it feels in our hand).

While we were still in the design phase for the 17oz Trio and it hadn’t yet been released yet, we had a customer, Jessica, write in, saying thanks for the insulated bottle, but she was wishing for a smaller bottle to accompany her larger one.

"The search for a truly insulated, non plastic, bottle cage fitting, easy to use bottle is OVER. This one is a winner. Very light, super vacuum insulation, easy to clean. Keeps cold drinks super cold all day. I ride a small frame, and my only regret is that it does not come in a smaller size for my second, limited space bottle cage. A winner. Highly recommended."

When we saw Jessica’s review, we smiled and knew the Trio Mini was the right path to be chasing. Upon receiving our first samples, we sent one to Jessica to test out on her bike and make sure we were not crazy.

When we asked how she’s liking her bottle, she promptly emailed back saying her current status was on the bike, with her Trio and Trio Mini in tow. She ended by saying her water was ice cold ALL DAY.

We recently had another customer Halsey write in, telling us the story of how she bike commutes to her job in downtown Boston and, every Friday, she stops by her favorite coffee shop (Pepita Coffee) and fills up her 17oz Trio with an iced Matcha.

Halsey said she loves her 17 ouncer, because it fits perfectly on her bike and it keeps her matcha cold on the hot rides into the office and well through the day.

Snagging a weekly cold matchas en route to work is one of the best ideas we’ve heard all week, Halsey!

P.S. I have loved attending events this summer, because it's so nice to have conversations in person about our bottles (something you all do every day!) One of my favorite things about events is that customers can see the bottles in person to make sure they pick one that's the right size for their bike. We recently calculated that 30% of all bottle sales are 17oz Trios at events, in part because customers can bring their bikes by and see that the shorter 17oz Trio is a perfect fit for their bike.

    1 out of ...

When we launched our tall 21oz insulated Trio, it was clear people were loving the cold water. The only problem was the bottle didn't quite fit in everyone's bikes. So, we launched a slightly smaller bottle: the 17oz Trio that's a perfect fit for smaller bikes and full suspension mountain bikes.

Keaton met with Melissa Valliant from Beyond Plastics to discuss the hazardous impacts of plastic overconsumption and what we can do to get involved in the solution.
The winner of the Battle of the Bottles is announced! Congratulations to one retailer in Australia that went above and beyond to make an excellent Bivo display.
